The Cultural Triangle is at the heart of Sri Lanka – both geographically and culturally. From our base in Dambulla, we will visit three World Heritage sites – the astonishing Golden Cave Temple, the stunning 5th century rock fortress of Sigiriya and the ancient city ruins of Anuradhapura. We will also take a jeep safari around Minneriya National Park.

Monday 19 November
Kandy – Dambulla – Habarana b l
Today we leave Kandy and head to Habarana, en-route we visit a spice garden in Matale, where you will be introduced to different spices that Sri Lanka is famous for.Following lunch (included) we will continue on to the Golden Temple of Dambulla which sits 160 metres above road level and consists of 5 caves featuring numerous murals and approx. 150 statues of Buddha.
We then continue on to Habarana, where we check into the Cinnamon Lodge Hotel for a 3 night stay.
Tuesday 20 November
Habarana b
This morning we head to the nearby ruins of the 5th century city, Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you wish, you may climb the paths and steps to the top of the 180 metre high rock fortress, upon which King Kassapa had built his palace.Late afternoon, we will head to Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari. Minneriya is most famous for its large elephant and bird populations but you may also spot deer, sambar, monkeys and, very rarely, leopards.
Wednesday 21 November
Habarana-Anuradhapura-Habarana b
This morning we visit the archaeological site of Sri Lanka’s first capital – the UNESCO World Heritage listed Sacred City of Anuradhapura. See the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world – over 2,200 years old – the sacred Bodhi Tree, which was allegedly propagated from the original Bodhi tree, under which the Buddha gained enlightenment, and numerous archaeological and architectural structures, some of which are still used to this day.Thursday 22 November
Habarana – UK b
Today we say goodbye as we transfer you to the Bandaranaike International Airport for your flight home (most arrive in the UK on the same day).Alternatively, carry on to our Colombo Tour – 3rd Test.
