England in India
3rd Test: Mohali, Chandigarh
24 November – 01 December 2016
Chandigarh
Located at the foothills of Shivalik Mountains, Chandigarh was established as the Capital of East Punjab as part of the partitioning of the country in 1947. The new city was designed on a spacious grid and with a population of just 800,000, benefits from relatively easy traffic flow. The Punjab Cricket Association ground is in suburban Mohali and with a cooler climate in Punjab than the states further south, the England cricket team should feel slightly more in their element!

J. W. Marriott – 5 star Deluxe
Although a big brand hotel, the J.W. Marriott retains an intimacy that was not present at its main competitor – the Hyatt. The other main 5-star in Chandigarh is the Taj, which is tired and in need of a refurbishment. The Marriott offers a peaceful rooftop pool, renowned Quan Spa and 3 restaurants including the highly recommended Saffron restaurant, specialising in North West frontier cuisine. The rooms are large and extremely comfortable with the ultra-comfortable trademark Marriott mattress and bedding. It is the only hotel we inspected in India that offers 2 x double beds in a twin room (and 1 x King for single or double occupancy). We are not the only ones to rate this hotel highly – it is also the number one choice on Tripadvisor!
