Our tour starts with a night at Negombo Beach, which is just 20 minutes from the airport. The following day we head to the geographical and cultural heart of the island (four hour drive) to explore Sri Lanka’s famed Cultural Triangle. We will visit four world heritage sites – the astonishing Golden Cave Temple of Dambulla, the stunning 5th century rock fortress of Sigiriya, the ancient city ruins of Anuradhapura and the lively, sacred city of Kandy. We will also take a 4WD safari at Minneriya National Park.

NEGOMBOOn arrival in Sri Lanka, transfer to the nearby seaside town of Negombo (approx. 20 mins) and check into your deluxe room at the Jetwing Beach Hotel. Remainder of day at leisure to recover from the long journey.
Sunday 13 March bl
NEGOMBO – HABARANAThis morning we head to the Cultural Triangle, stopping en-route for lunch. After lunch we will continue onto the world heritage listed Golden Temple of Dambulla which sits 160 metres above road level and consists of 5 caves featuring numerous murals and approx. 150 statues of Buddha
We then continue on to Habarana, where we check into our deluxe rooms at the Cinnamon Lodge Hotel for a 3 night stay
Monday 14 March b
HABARANAThis morning we head to the nearby ruins of the 5th century city, Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you wish, you may climb the paths and steps to the top of the 180 metre high rock fortress, upon which King Kassapa had built his palace
Late afternoon, we will head to Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari. Minneriya is most famous for its large elephant and bird populations but you may also spot deer, sambar, monkeys and, very rarely, leopards
Tuesday 15 March b
ANURADHAPURA DAY TRIPThis morning we visit the archaeological site of Sri Lanka’s first capital – the UNESCO World Heritage listed Sacred City of Anuradhapura. See the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world – over 2,200 years old – the sacred Bodhi Tree, which was allegedly propagated from the original Bodhi tree – under which the Buddha gained enlightenment – and numerous archaeological and architectural structures, some of which are still used to this day

HABARANA – KANDYToday we depart Habarana and head to the Royal City of Kandy, stopping off en-route in a spice garden in Matale for a guided tour, followed by lunch
After lunch, we continue on to Kandy, where we check into our deluxe rooms at the Earl’s Regency Hotel for a 2 night stay

KANDY TOURToday we take a tour of Kandy, visiting the Royal Botanical Gardens in nearby Peradeniya, Kandy Lake, the bazaar and the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Lunch included

KANDY – GALLEThis morning we depart Kandy and head to Galle. En-route we will visit a tea plantation in Giragama.
On arrival in Galle, we will check into the Jetwing Beach Hotel – our home for the next six nights
This evening we will host our ‘Welcome’ Cocktail Party on the beach – a chance to meet the rest of your group. Canapés and drinks included
