Our tour starts with a night at Negombo Beach, which is just 20 minutes from the airport. The following day we head to the geographical and cultural heart of the island (four hour drive) to explore Sri Lanka’s famed Cultural Triangle. We will visit four world heritage sites – the astonishing Golden Cave Temple of Dambulla, the stunning 5th century rock fortress of Sigiriya, the ancient city ruins of Anuradhapura and the lively, sacred city of Kandy. We will also take a 4WD safari at Minneriya National Park.

NEGOMBO – HABARANA
This morning we head to the Cultural Triangle, stopping en-route for lunch. After lunch we will continue onto the world heritage listed Golden Temple of Dambulla which sits 160 metres above road level and consists of 5 caves featuring numerous murals and approx. 150 statues of BuddhaWe then continue on to Habarana, where we check into our deluxe rooms at the Cinnamon Lodge Hotel for a 3 night stay

HABARANA
This morning we head to the nearby ruins of the 5th century city, Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you wish, you may climb the paths and steps to the top of the 180 metre high rock fortress, upon which King Kassapa had built his palaceLate afternoon, we will head to Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari. Minneriya is most famous for its large elephant and bird populations but you may also spot deer, sambar, monkeys and, very rarely, leopards

ANURADHAPURA DAY TRIP
This morning we visit the archaeological site of Sri Lanka’s first capital – the UNESCO World Heritage listed Sacred City of Anuradhapura. See the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world – over 2,200 years old – the sacred Bodhi Tree, which was allegedly propagated from the original Bodhi tree – under which the Buddha gained enlightenment – and numerous archaeological and architectural structures, some of which are still used to this dayWednesday 16 March bl
