Darwin & Kakadu National Park Option

 8-13 December 2010 (6 days)

December in the tropical ‘Top End’ of Australia is incredibly hot, humid and wet! The upside of being there during ‘the wet’ is that the thunderstorms are truly breathtaking and the flora and fauna of Kakadu National Park are at their incredible best.

  TOUR ITINERARY

Wed 08-Dec        Fly to Darwin. On arrival, transfer by coach to the Sky City Hotel on Mindil Beach. Please note, due to poisonous box jelly fish at this time of year, swimming in the ocean is not recommended. Luckily the Sky City has a swimming pool!

Thu 09 Dec      Half day tour of Darwin. Darwin is a paradox – rustic yet sophisticated, laid back yet of international standard, jingoistic yet proudly multi-cultural. On our tour we visit the Chinese Temple and the amazing Botanical Gardens. We also learn about Darwin’s involvement in WWII and the devastating cyclone of Xmas Day 1975.

Fri 10 Dec        Day at leisure. You might like to consider an optional day trip to the swimming lagoons of Litchfield National Park or a day of world class fishing.

Sat 11 Dec     Today we head to Kakadu National Park which is 2-3 hours from Darwin. Kakadu – a World Heritage listed site – is hugely significant both ecologically and culturally. As well as the astounding biodiversity of the park, it is also extremely important to Aboriginal people with some communities still present in the park.

Sun 12 Dec       Today we will tour around Kakadu, including an extraordinary cruise through the ‘Yellow Waters’ wetlands from where you will see an amazing array of mammals, birds and reptiles, including the fabled saltwater crocodiles. We will also visit ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries and view the park from various spectacular viewing points.

Mon 13 Dec       This morning we leave Kakadu and head to Darwin airport for our flight on to Perth.

Tue 14 Dec     Day tour to the Swan Valley winery region, including cruise back up the Swan River to Perth. Delicious winery lunch included.
